Although with the all integration between Windows/O365/OneDrive/SharePoint etc, I doubt any company has any chance of beating them at any of this stuff for a very long time. Sure, I too would like to influence MS in not doing dumb shit, but the ship is just too big to steer, even for those you can influence things. Outlook etc is just too fucking buggy for me to put up with for my own stuff. I recently migrated my email for my own domain over to O365, but regretted it.

I got in on the free tier of GSuite/GoogleApps, so I've got that for my domain for free luckily. but for personal email accounts, stick to Google. I've changed my mind many times between MS vs Google for email hosting, and now for businesses, I only recommend O365. When things get big though, that becomes impossible. In smaller companies, it much easier for an individual person (or group of people) to have a good understanding of how the whole system works internally. I think a big part of MS's issues with this shit is just that the company is so big, and just more and more crap is piled into the infrastructure and software. I think this applies even more to email, which I think is crazy considering that this is what consumes a huge chunk of work life for anyone with any kind of desk job.

The business world is full of stories about companies that once dominated their market and then disappeared. The moral is, if you keep this up and refuse to fix long standing problems and pretend they don't exist you too will disappear like Digital Equipment.

Here's the moral of my sad story and if anyone from Microsoft reads this I hope you'll share what I've said within your company.

You want me to try and mark every single email I get as not junk? Get real! (It doesn't work for me anyway) Please hang in there we'll keep you updated.' Instead, their position is dead silence or offering work arounds that don't work or are so impracticable that no one in their right mind would do it. One would think that Microsoft would loudly and openly say 'we are aware of this problem and we're working our butts off to fix it. I've spent hours looking into this and the problem is widespread, has lasted for years and everyone knows it. This issue with the junk problem is the PERFECT example of what I'm talking about. They've stopped listening to their customers and one day I honestly believe they will be knocked off their pedestal just like DEC was.

Why am I telling you this? Because I see the same thing happening with Microsoft. Sadly, we stopped listening to our customers and DEC dwindled down from 140,000 employees to less than half before it was bought out, never to be heard of again. We had great products that were way ahead of their time and customers loved us. At the time it was the second largest tech company in the world behind IBM. I'm a retired techie and started my career with Digital Equipment.
